Kara’s work focuses on the language of the urban landscape. The patterns and incidentals. Elements from the cityscape are selected and reinterpreted to form a unique object with a new dialect of expression. There is a balance between preservation and reinvention and a tendency to transform the mundane into lustre.
This exhibition borrows slices and snippets of the landscape. Changes them and relayers, resulting in a new language. Wood offcuts are re-purposed and threads from pre-used vinyl billboards are individually selected and used to create new patterns. Stencil paintings reuse the stencils used to create them to adhere onto and then peel off to reveal further patterns.
